The Corporate Volunteer Council is an affiliate of Volunteer
Broward comprising a grouping of corporations that pool resources for greater impact. Member corporations of
the CVC are actively involved in civic activities either
individually or as a group. Over the years, the CVC
signature event has been the Back to School Blowout,
where 50-60 children selected from agencies that serve the
needy, are treated to new school clothes and supplies. Each
child is given $250 and is paired with 1-2 chaperones in a
day filled with fun and excitement. |
On July
30th, for the 9th year running, the CVC sponsored
the Back-to-School Blowout, benefiting children from
Gunzburger Washington Park Child Care Center, Minority
Development and Empowerment and 2 inner city elementary
schools. This year, a flock of 60 children aged 4-13,
swarmed through Pembroke Lakes Mall for a few hours for a “shop ‘till you drop” back-to-school shopping. They were accompanied
by more than 120 volunteer chaperones having at least as
much fun as they.
The funds
for the event were raised through corporate donations. Each
child, matched to two volunteer chaperones from the donating
companies, received $250 to spend on back to school clothes,
shoes and supplies. Backpacks stuffed with supplies were
also donated. The
